The orbit of minor planet (4589), kindly plotted by Gareth Williams of the Minor Planet Center: |
Below: an image of (4589) McDowell taken by Jonathan McDowell on 1994 Jun 16 from the 1.2m at Mt Hopkins. The asteroid is the trail at center, just to the left of the bright star. It's elongated because it moved a little bit around the Sun in the 10 minutes it took to make the picture, unlike the fuzzy little galaxy just below it which really is extended, and the bent-string artifact at bottom right which is something in the camera. |
