The SRET (Satellite de Recherches et d'Etudes Techniques) satellite had a mass of only 15 kg, and was analogous to the TRS satellites built by the USAF. It carried solar cell arrays to study the effect of radiation degradation. [4] SRET 1 was carried into orbit as a secondary payload with a Molniya satellite from Plesetsk in Apr 1972. The Soviets referred to it as MAS (Maliy Avtonomiy Sputnik, Small automatic satellite).
