The Astronaut Selections List
This section lists space travellers' association with particular astronaut groups.
Individuals who were on flight status with more than one agency during their careers have multiple entries, one for each agency.
The data file is
astrosel.html
As with the space travellers list, a superset list including
trainees who did not fly or have not yet flown is also
available at
trainsel.html
Column Descriptions
- No
- identification, from the main space traveller list
- SelNo
- entry number for this individual. Most individuals have only one entry
but some transferred from one space agency to another during their
careers.
- Name
- name of the individual, for reader convenience. Should be the same as in the main space traveller list.
- Agency
- organization code for the astronaut group which the individual was part of.
See
planet4589.org/space/gcat/web/orgs/index.html
for the explanation of these codes.
The agency indicates the organization under whose aegis the individual was an astronaut (not necessarily an employee).
Some notes: NASA military astronauts remained part of the active US military and were temporarily assigned to NASA duty, but were not NASA employees.
'X15' indicates the Edwards AFB X-15 pilot group, including NASA, USAF, and USN pilots. SLPS
indicates NASA Spacelab payload specialists not part of the main NASA astronaut corps.
VVS is the Soviet air force; NPOE and RKKE refer to the NPO Energiya (later RKK Energiya) cosmonaut team.
- SelDate
indicates the approximate date of selection for astronaut training.
- RetDate
indicates the date when permanently off flight status for that agency due to retirement or death.
- S
(Status): see the explanation for the same field in the main space traveller list.
Note that I don't put a lot of effort in keeping the active/retired status up to date, so some of those marked as A may actually be R.
- Group
(Group and cohort): these group together astronauts from a single selection for a given agency and in some cases separately group
pilot and scientist astronauts.
