List of spaceflight segments

The file segments.html lists each individual's role on each segment of each human spaceflight mission. The entries are ordered chronologically within each spaceflight program.

Each human spaceflight mission consists of one or multiple segments (for example: launch to docking with station, expedition on stage, return to Earth). Each astronaut ride consists of one or more segments, but they don't have to be all on the same mission - for example, an astronaut may return to Earth on a different spaceship from the one they launched on, and not all the astronauts launched at the same time necessarily come back at the same time.

The role each astronaut plays may change from segment to segment - for example, an astronaut may be commander of a Soyuz ferry ship on the way to ISS, but is not necessarily commander of the ensuing Station expedition.

This file describes the individual segments and ties them to the mission and astronaut role. Each row is a single segment and role.

Column Descriptions

The columns in the table are described below:

• RideCode - Which ride the segment is part of. This is also the segment role code for the first segment of the ride. This information ties the segment to the rides list and the missions list.
• SegNo - segment number within the ride. Many rides have one segment, but others have multiple segments. The combination of ride code and segment number uniquely identifies a segment.
• SegRoleCode - the role code for this segment. This encodes what role the astronaut and what mission they were on during this segment. Note that Segment role codes are not globally unique, although they are unique for a specific time period. Thus "STS126/MS5" (Mission STS-126, role Mission Specialist 5) occurs twice: S. Magnus had this role during STS-126 ascent to docking (ride STS126/MS5 segment 1), but G. Chamitoff had the same role during STS-126 undocking to landing (ride STS124/MS5 segment 4).
• ID - the astronaut ID for this segment, from the Space Travellers List. This ID uniquely identifies the individual (until we invent Star Trek style transporter accidents).
• Name - the short name of the astronaut, usually as in the Space Travellers List.
• Role - the mission and role (the expanded version of the information encoded in the segment role code).
• Date1 - UTC start time of the segment.
• Event1 - Description of the event which begins the segment, or name of the mission of which the segment is part.
• Date2 - UTC end time of the segment.
• Event2 - Description of the event which ends the segment.
• Duration - Duration of the segment. Expressed as days:min:hr:sec (although the :sec is omitted when the relevant precision is unavailable). Should be the time difference Date2 minus Date1.
